Morning all
I wonder if any of you good people could help me out with a software recommendation.
I have an elderly relative who is embarking on their own computer journey so to speak, he calls me when something won't work or he needs help with something, I really do not mind this I enjoy helping him however sometimes it is really difficult to get across to him what he needs to do and how to do it, his knowledge really is minimal.
I was thinking about investing in some software that would allow me to remotely take control of his machine then he could simply sit back and watch, similar to the software BT technical support use.
Could any of you tell me the most effective way of achieving this? We both run Windows 7 I believe there is some sort of remote assistance built in, would it be fit for this purpose? If not could anyone recommend some stand alone software I could buy?
Thanks in advance, your time and insight is always appreciated

I suspect you already know that Win7 has the free "remote desktop connection", not sure though if its on all versions*.
The one that spammers use is logmein - www.logmein.com
* PS Just looked it up - not available on "home" editions....0 -
Logmein is very good and free. So is Teamviewer.0

You can even do it over MSN on 'request remote assistance'0

LogMeIn is great and not just used by spammers or more accurately, cold calling scammers who trick the ill informed / gullible..... it has a totally legitimate use and works well, even the free version they offer provides enough 'remote assistance' for most people to sort out their relatives computer issues.

Unless you want to lock down inbound VNC/RDP sessions to your external IP.... yes logmein is prob the way to go. Just remember, VNC servers are not secure, do NOT use them for inbound requests across the internet.Bored? Find something to do for the family? stuckinthehouse.co.uk0
