best way to initially make a PPI claim?

hi

its my first post in this section and i am seriously thinking of making a PPI claim from Lloyds and Barclays

i have read through the guide on here...then i went on the lloyds and barclays website and they each have a page dedicated to PPI complaints, basically they ask you to write to them and they then advise you to fill in the FOS questionnaire which i believe is on this site as well

is it just the same going through this way? as the banks advise it is easier to complain directly to them.

here is there link http://www.lloydstsb.com/payment_protection_insurance_complaints.asp

if i go through this way do i write to them first and they then write back to me asking me to fill in this questionnaire or do i send the questionnaire along on the first time i write to them?

not sure the best way to go about it.

any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

  • Hi Hamilton,

I made my complaint over the phone to LLoyds. I think it's the first option on the phone number on that page. Anyway - they didn't need any forms off me, just the details of loan numbers etc. Saved a small amount of paperwork. Just make sure you get the letter saying that they are dealing with it (which is your 'receipt').

    good luck!

hey, thanks for the reply :)

    is your complaint still ongoing?

read many success and failure stories with lloyds on these forums, ive got a complaint to take up with barclays and capital one as well, its going to be a long road !
  • Hi there!

I registered a complaint with lloyds 12 weeks ago over the phone, i only wrang to get some details off them but ended up putting in claims about 4 accounts, 2 of which i didnt know about! people on here are moaning about there service but they were good to me and yesterday i was made aware that my claims have been upheld!

i complained on the grounds that i didnt know ppi was on there and that it wasnt descussed at all when i was offered the cards!

anyway all is being sorted now! its taken one phonecall, and one ;etter back to say i accept there offer! one thing that did help me was to check all the accounts that ive had via lloyds through experians credit expert site! its free for a trial and will give you dates and account info!

    good luck! :0)
  • Stevefarr,

that's been my experience and I'm glad I've been lucky. When I spoke to them last night the chap said my claim was for 4 loans (I had only thought I had 3 which qualified). Fingers crossed that the rest is as smoot
  • I was extra lucky as at the time i was calling for info to put on a form supplied by a claims management place, how they justify upwards of 30percent is stagering! for a call or a letter.... so glad i didnt go down that route! its so easy to do yourself! infact im shocked how easy its been in my case
  • Steve,

Ironically I might have been tempted to use an agency until one contacted me. Dodgy doesn't even cover it.....

good info about these claims management ppl, how they take so much money off you if you win :(

i didnt ring lloyds my letter has just gone off today for my loan and credit card, i did have another loan which has finished but the PPI was cancelled in 14 days of taking the loan out so just got the 2 complaints, ive done exactly what steve has done, complained that it was mis-sold basically because i had no idea it was on there.
  • oh and i filled out the FOS questionnaire as well explaining i wasnt aware it was optional either, hope that speeds it up !
