Currys Price Stitch Up

Hi All,
I went into Currys on Sunday to buy a Plasma TV. The salesman was very nice and very helpful. The price listed for the TV I wanted was £949 or they did a bundle deal with a Bluray player for £978. That made the Bluray player only £30 so I snapped it up.
I asked the salesman if the TV was the same price online and he checked and said yes it was. He then said they had stopped doing the offer on the bundle but as the ticket was still out he would honor it.
All was good and I left a happy man.
When I got home I saw that the TV on it's own was in fact only £799 on their website and not the £949 as advertised instore. That meant they had charged me £150 too much.
I went into the store and challenged them and they said I could have the TV for £799 but I would have to return the bluray player as it was not included in the TV deal. So to clarify they would offer me the £150 back.
Now this is the point I need advice on. The in store advertised price for the TV was £949 and the bundle was £978. I entered into a contract with them for the bundle and feel I should still be refunded the £150 for the TV and be allowed to keep the bluray player as this was part of the deal I entered into. If the TV was marked in store as £799 or buy as a bundle with for bluray player for £978 I would of course of only bought the TV.
They have mislead me by showing incorrect prices. Do people think I have a chance of getting a refund if I right to head office and still keep the bluray player?
Advice really needed. Thank you in advance.

No. If you want the 150 back you will have to return the Blu-Ray.
Why did you not research *before* buying ? Would have saved you a lot of hassle and money...0 -
The deal they were offering with the bluray was not available online and I wanted to see the TV instore and not decide on the one I wanted online when you cannot view the quality.0

return the blueray accept the refund move on and take a mental note, In future one must do more research rather than impulse buying !0

There was no impulsive buying involved.
I went into a store browsed through all their products and made a careful decision. I don't think you can call me impulsive without even knowing me!!
The facts are they mislead me and told me the price was the same online when clearly it wasn't. If I hadn't asked that question fair enough I can see why you might say I was silly and should have gone home and researched more but I did ask and they confirmed it so I was happy to place the order.
I didn't post on here for people to tell me how stupid I may or may not have been thanks.0 -
The deal that was honored was the tv and blueray.
If you bought it off the net it would have cost £950. so you are at a advantage.
If you return the blueray they can give you a refund for £150.
I donot think they have to give you a refund for the tv as that would be the same price as the net and you were buying the TV and would not have bought it less then the internet price.
If you can prove at the same time or now that the tv and blueray were being sol online for less then you can get the diffrence refunded.0 -
I didnt say you were stupid, I merely pointed out that you should return the blueray accept the £150.00 back and move on, you cannot for one second think that you will get a discount and a free blueray player surely !
I was trying to say that a little more research as stated by both Vuvuzela and myself would have been better before your actual purchase.0 -
You bought a bundle for a price. You want them to now honour the single price of the TV without a blu ray player. They don't have to do that.
Accept the £150 and then put some of it towards a different blu ray player. You can get brilliant ones for less, after all.0 -

The *fact* is you did not research the price before you bought it, simply asking a salesperson in a single store doesn't count...
And for a decent Blu-Ray for 50 quid, have a look at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190574485329 (refurbed but comes with 12 month warranty)0 -
They didn't show you incorrect prices. They showed you the in-store price. Many companies have different prices online and in-store and operate the online and retail arms seperately. This usually reflects the significant difference in overheads.0

I wouldn't say you were necessarily mislead - that implies it was deliberate. It's quite possible the salesman (and whoever he checked with) made a genuine mistake.
You say "I entered into a contract with them for the bundle" - that's correct, for a price of £978. You were happy with this price at the time, you're only unhappy now that you realise you could have got it cheaper. Your first post asks for advice, and looking at the replies you've got what I'd say is good advice - return the TV & player, take the £150 refund and spend it on a cheaper player with some blu-ray discs. It looks like you're not happy with the advice, but at some point you'll have to realise you're not going to get £150 AND a free blu-ray player out of Currys.0
