Back to work - the first month!

Hey all

Starting work tomorrow after a few years on IB and then ESA.

I won't be paid for 5 weeks, so worrying a bit about managing the first month. A few questions -

I've been awarded jobgrant - but only the single person rate of 100 pounds. I have children and a dependent partner - should I have received the rate for people with children? Would being on contribution based benefit affect this? I'm not sure if this is a mistake as they've already made on mistake regarding jobgrant (they claimed I was not entitled at first as they didn't realise I'd been migrated over from IB and thought I'd only been claiming sickness benefits a few weeks)

Tax credits - I currently get ctc. Will my payments stop while they recalculate my claim? How long does it normally take to get working tax credit paid?

Housing benefit runon - How is this claimed?

I'd appreciate any advice. Really looking forward to starting work, but that first month will be hard!

Cheers

Housing and council tax benefit run on, was automatic in our case. CTC won't stop, you will just have to wait weeks for the WTC. You do need to inform them of starting work and your salary though.
  • Congratulations on the new job!
Can I ask, what steps you took to get back into work?
I am on ESA at the moment and trying to get well enough to apply for jobs.
I feel no one will want me, as I have "been on the sick" for a long time - plus, I have a bipolar disorder. It feels like I will never find work.
No get up and go and no confidence.
How do you get off the scrap heap (that's how I feel)
