  • Hi well done, I am new too only joined in last week. Took me ages to get the courage I needed but the support has been tremendous. Therefore i had the courage to put pen to paper and as you felt; better for it. Good luck don't feel ashamed because as I now know, there are friends out there who care. I say friends, eventhough we have never met but that is the way about the people who respond to us all when we feel there is no one else. It is great to know that people care.

Hi Totallyfedup....my CCs are 0% as they are introductory offers...I haven't had anydealings with cccs so only know what I read on here...I already had a card with the halifax ...which I didn't owe anything on...they then sent me a letter saying as they were changing to mastercard I would be getting a new card and I could have interest free for 9 months..so I just transferred a balance from another card....MBNA...is also a 9 month 0% deal..that was offered me..
I agree that it's sometimes easier to sort your own debts than to go down the other routes...
This is what I'm doing...the diary ,the OS board and posting an SOA are the 3 most critical things to do to beat the debt...I have another thread "I'm going to be loaded wow"...not trying to push it but after following thes 3 points mentioned ...this was the result....it may give you ideas..good luck I know you're going to do it

    Hi TFU

Ive just wrote a war and peace and lost what Ive written. But in summary, get your CC statements out and write down how much you owe and ensure you use your bank account statements so you wont miss any of your debts - as this is v important. Grasp the nettle - the sooner you do this the sooner you will start feeling better - we've all been there and can all tell you how invigorating it is. Read this thread it is a living legend in terms of what you will be going through will be v similar to its content: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=154168&highlight=too+scared+to+work+out+what+I+owe. Then do your SOA (read this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280) Then phone Payplan or CCCS to see how they can help you (read this thread and look at their websites http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1103204730,72152,#help) You are amongst friends and fellow strugglers so keep on posting and dont be ashamed if you debt is over 40K mine is! Keep posting your emotions here and you will be overwhelmed with the response. I'm in the forces (Royal Navy) if I can help you further in anyway.

    Be strong.

  • Thanks all, just doing the final bits to the SOA - seems to be taking me forever to get all the info together.

Having read Payplans bits I've opened a new account online today for my wages etc to go into and as my current bank is Halifax and as I have a loan & visa with them it says it's wise to change.

Tomorrow I'm going to ring Payplan - it seems to be less hassle than doing it all myself altho' I was going to contact each creditor indvidually explain how we've got into this mess and that we WANT to get out of it by doing things properly and paying our way until everything is paid off and that we are now putting everything with Payplan who will contact them in due course to request that they freeze any interest and to give them a payment which we hope they will accept. Would you do this or leave it to Payplan? I thought it might be better coming from us initially?????

Another quick quessie and in some aspects part of the reason we're in a mess - DH gets paid weekly in cash (the main earner), I get paid 4 weekly in my job and CHB is the same by BACS, and his Army pension is paid monthlyby BACS. What is the best breakdown to do - monthly or weekly?

Thanks again, I still feel sick to the pit of my stomach but do feel better for actually admitting we have a problem and are taking the first steps to deal with it.

Thanks again, you lot are great!

Proud to be dealing with my debits although I have to admit I am scared half to death at how big a mess we are in.  Don't think I will EVER forgive myself for being so stupid!
