Ebay not as described help!

Options
Hopefully some ebay gurus would be able to help!

I recently had a clearout and one of the items I sold was a DVD Player in excellent condition but as I had upgraded to a BlueRay thought I would sell it on. I duly listed it and it sold for about £30 more than i was expecting to be honest. However the bidder paid quickly . Suddenly I get an email asking me if it was working as he had seen some negative reviews( where from I dont know) I replied explaining it worked fine with me ( which it did) . I had it delivered via courier . I then get an email saying the item is not as described as it is faulty. I asked for details and got reasons such as the remote control is slow etc etc. I explained that the item was in perfect working order when it left me . The buyer duly opened a dispute claim against me . After much arguing I relented and offered to take the item back ( I still believe there is nothing wrong with it) and asked for it to be posted back. I would then offer refund upon reciept providing the unit was not damaged. It has all gone quiet now but I note Paypal has taken the money back already ! I dont have the item and no responses to my emails.
What comeback do I have?

Paypal have put your money on hold pending the buyer proving that item has been returned.

What messages are showing in the dispute console?

  • Hi the details are below

"quality of recordings are poor, it takes along time to respond from remote, the freeview very very slow to respond from remote, its very slow to function and I haven't tried to record on to dvd's."
  • It sounds as if the dispute is open but not escalated. As you have stated he can have a refund upon retune, that is what will happen if he escalates the dispute. You can't do much more at the moment.
  • thanks very much
  • I had a simalar situation recently. I had to refund and the buyer returned the item. I was not happy as the item was as described and I lost out. The buyer also left negative feedback even though I refunded etc.
I feel ebay has gives the seller very little protection from dis honest buyers

If the buyer has to open a dispute to get a refund you can guarantee a neg. Also remember in your descriptions what you think is obvious may not be to a potential buyer. The best way to protect against a SNAD is make sure your descriptions are good and you have sufficient photo's.

Its right that buyers have the best protection as they are the ones parting with their money without customers where would the sellers by?
