Question about upgrading RAM

Options
I'm looking at upgrading the RAM in my laptop. My question is do both of the RAM modules need to be the same?

Thanks in advance

if you google crucial UK, go to their website and put in yr make and model of the laptop, it will tell you what type of ram you need and any restrictions, such as that you ask about.

I've already done that. It said on there that for best performance memory should be used in matching pairs. I was thinking of leaving the current 1gb in there and adding a 2gb module.

+1. It'll work OK but just not in dual channel mode. Most people won't be able to tell the difference without using speed testing software.
