are adhesions considered pre-conditions for travel insurance?

Hi,

My wife recently had 3 surgery operations for abdominal adhesion, are they considered pre-conditions? If you don't know, how can I check it? Thank you very much!

  • get in touch with your travel insurer tell them about your wifes problem and they will transfer you to their medical advisors and give you a ruling. You then have proof that you have made them aware of the condition and there will be no problems if you have to make a claim for any reason.

In my experience any surgery in the last 12 months has been treated as a PEMC and must be declared even if all is well and no follow up is required.

In my exerience it varies as different companies have different definitions.
If in doubt give them a ring, they'll tell you if it is relevant to them.

I'd also go with incapuppy - if she's had surgery then it will be classed as a pre-existing medical condition.
  • It would certainly be better to tell them than not to and then find out that she is totally uninsured, they would certainly find out about them if she had a problem. The best policy is if you have the slightest doubt then tell them.

A common phrase used about PEMC is "Any other medical condition for which you have consulted a hospital specialist or needed inpatient treatment within the last 12 months.".

Thank you all, I will try to contact some companies and see what they think about it.

I wanted to update this thread because eventually I found a company that accepted adhesions as precondition directly on web site:
