Is it worth having a car? What do I need to know?

I was thinking of getting a driving license and car. I have some questions.

- What do I need to know?

- How much does insurance, parking, petrol etc costs?

- Any other costs or things I need to know?

- Where can I find information on getting a driving license and car?

- What website or places do I go to to obtain a driving license and car?

- What are the main benefits?

- I am also worried about getting into an accident. But if you pass your driving test, then does that mean your unlikely to have an accident?

- How much should I spend on my first car if I got a driving license?

- What car brand is the best for a new driver?

- Does anyone drive to work? How much does petrol/diesel cost you?

- Does it cost you anything to park?

I don't travel much, so I am not sure if I really need one.

Thanks for any replies

I don't think you should be driving to be honest.

If you live in London as your name suggests, then the answer's no.

I was thinking of getting a driving license and car. I have some questions.

    - What do I need to know? how to drive

    - How much does insurance, parking, petrol etc costs? Quite a lot

    - Any other costs or things I need to know? How to park

    - Where can I find information on getting a driving license and car? I can't help you with the license but it just so happens I have a car I'll be trying sell soon...

    - What website or places do I go to to obtain a driving license and car? I'm not sure there are websites to teach driving yet (but I did cram the night before my test reading a book by James Hunt)

    - What are the main benefits? not having to catch a bus

    - I am also worried about getting into an accident. But if you pass your driving test, then does that mean your unlikely to have an accident? Yes, it virtually guarantees you'll never have an accident (I may be exaggerating this bit)

    - How much should I spend on my first car if I got a driving license? I'll sell you mine for £500

    - What car brand is the best for a new driver? a 1997 Mondeo (ghia)

    - Does anyone drive to work? How much does petrol/diesel cost you? I do, it costs me ~ £10/week, do you work near me?

    - Does it cost you anything to park? No

I don't travel much, so I am not sure if I really need one.

    Thanks for any replies

    Obvously you don't NEED one

When you have a journey where YOU think this would have been better by car then that might be the time to think about it.

In the mean time learn to drive pass your test then you can get a licence.
