Paphos or Ibiza, which is better?

Hi there,

We cant seem to make our minds up about where to have a last minute week away in the sun hopefully this weekend. We being an early 30's couple, who havent been away for yonks! We narrowed it down to Paphos in Cyprus at the Helios Bay hotel, which seems to have very good reviews all round, or Club Nereida in San Antonio, Ibiza, which has good reviews but not as many as the former. I know its a long shot that anyone may have stayed at either hotel, but mainly we just looking to a have a cheapish holiday in the sun, close to the beach, and some good nightlife (not too crazy, but not karaoke/bingo nights either), clean hotel and no ants! Can anyone suggest which of the two, if not the hotels, but which place would be better for a quick getaway in the sun?

Thanks

Helios Bay is a reasonably nice hotel, close to a very small beach but very little night-life unless you travel in to Paphos every evening - the buses are regular but very very busy. We stayed there for a week in July, very hot weather, not a great deal of sightseeing, the pool is nice and plenty of sun loungers to go around. We didn't eat at the hotel (they had a bbq evening) but did eat several times at the restaurant next door, the food there was delicious and the service excellent. We went in to Paphos a couple of evenings, the main beach front is very busy with lots of people wandering round the tourist shops, the restaurants are all busy. The local beaches are not suitable for swimming - you would need to drive or get on a bus to Coral Bay to go swimming.

We're early 40's and went with my 19 year old daughter. We were looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun and it was exactly that.

I've never been to Ibiza so can't comment.

i think ...with your age.- please dont take offence-. Cyprus! Ibiza at this time of year is full of young young people.. i went san antonio this time 2 years ago and i felt old ( I was 21 ) and it is very club night orientated... if thats what you are looking for GO FOR IT :)
  • I've been going to Paphos for the last 9 years on and off, parents have a place there and I wouldn't say the nightlife is any good any more. There is certainly Bar Street, but lots of places closed down due to death of tourism over there (in comparison to prior years). That said I am 28 and I always have a good time, there's plenty of nice pubs and restuarants, just if you want to go all night raving I would stick to Ibiza?

sorry cant comment on hotels but went to ibiza last september. didnt do the clubs, a bit old for that! lol.we enjoyed san antonio but stayed playa den bossa, i suppose you can have as lively or quiet a holiday in ibiza depending on hotel location.
stayed ayia napa in september a few years back, it wasnt mad with the clubs it seemed to be winding down. but still enough nightlife for my son to enjoy.
if you are after a cheapish holiday i have to say as much as i enjoyed cyprus i would think twice before i went again, it was more expensive than mainland spain and majorca ,canaries to eat and drink i spent a fortune. ibiza can also be expensive as well depending on were you eat and drink.

Oiii watchu mean!!! :rotfl: Thanks Myth123 and Philippa36, we looking for something exactly in the middle of the two. Helios looks nice enough, but Pathos does seem a bit on the quiet side, and though Ibiza is generally the place to go for the younger party types, Ive been told San Antonia Bay (which is where I meant the hotel was) is not as hectic and a bit away from the clubs, but close enough if you wanted to go. Who knew holiday shopping could be so stressful

The weather in Ibiza is very good and the flight time is much shorter than Cyprus.

  • Ive just come back from staying at the SAN REMO HOTEL, in ibiza san antonio bay! Amazing! Love it, much quieter than san antonio and literally a 5mins walk on the sea wall there. Lots of lovely bars and stuff to do on the bay. Im 19 and went with my boyfriend we stayed in the bay untill about 12 then ventured to san antonio to hit the clubs. Recommend the bay 100%, we went with my mum and dad who are in there 40's and they loved it! When we went to the clubs, they'd stay in the bay all night and had a wicked time, also met other people around the same age group. Also reccommend our hotel, as was on the beach and was one of the nicest hotels Ive ever stayed in :j
