  • Hey everyone, I need some advice on something. I have recently tried to purchase something online and pay with my credit card. Today I get an email saying that my card could not be verified and I should make a wire transfer to the companies account. So I went back onto the website to try and pay with a different card (both have plenty of funds available) and the same thing has happen, an email saying card could not be verified and I should pay by wire transfer. Now the company seem legitimate enough (registered at companies house etc etc) but if I purchase this item and pay by transfer do I get any coverage if the item does not turn up etc.

Hi. Having the same concerns as you I have done a bit of research prior to buying from Bargain Universe .com, I came across this forum and thought id let you know about my experience. I was looking for a new TV and as you know this site do some bargains. But I called my bank Halifax and asked if I was covered if I bought from this site and they said I was so I went ahead with a purchase but not for an expensive TV but a cheap £23 USB dongle. I made the payment via my debit card on Friday just gone and I received a confirmation email. I am now waiting for it to arrive next week sometime. in the meantime ill be monitoring my account. ill let you know if I do in fact receive the item. Like many others I'm shocked at their low prices. Their most expensive camera is the Hasselblad HD4-40 DSLR priced at £3900 a simple Google search revealed this camera retails around £12,000.
Alarm bells ringing. Anyway ill keep you posted.
    The site is bargain-universe .com
  • Okay so there had to be one idiot to do it.
    I bought a TV off this bargains-universe.com

Who are now using a HSBC bank account

My card apparantly declined so I opted for the bank transfer which I did.
No laughing at my stupidity please.

    BUT

I have spoken to my bank whilst cancelling my cards and they tell me that if you do not receive good aftrer 26 days of payment you are entitled to go through the bank and they will refund the money into your account.

IT TAKES TIME BUT APPARANTLY WORKS
I will post further on this if I come across any problems

hmmm... sounds odd to me, for a couple of reasons:

    - i've not known a single person able to recover a BACS payment via the banks.

    - 26 days sounds odd.... under DSRs the performance clause states after 30 days you can consider the contract having not been entered into in the first place (unless overwise agreed) so at 26 days 9assuming they never guaranteed delivery) they are not in breach of anything.

I'd be back on the phone to the bank speaking to different advisors to confirm this is true with bank transfers. (I'm thinking the advisor got mixed up with the chargeback scheme on debiit cards..)
  • Since my post I've called the bank and cancelled my card to be on the safe side. III called the 01612229004 number again only to be greeted with the same voicemail full message. Anyway this and the troubles everyone else is having has convinced me to stop my cheap USB stick experiment. Bargain - universe is clearly a scam and there isn't any business on corporation road, Manchester related to it. Its a pity company house don't scrutinize these scam artists a little closer instead of merely taking a few details online oh and not forgetting the payment then registering them as a legitimate company so innocent hard working people don't get scammed. Apart from companies house, another site called companycheck .co .UK also shows bargain universe as a legitimate company. I hope somebody catches Mr wu Wong and his partner and administer some rough justice.

With what money? They don't charge much for filing fees and I can register a company name tomorrow to stop someone 'nicking my name'. Unless they have PROOF of an issue why should they open up every company to check it?

That has come out rather rantish but it comes to this: Report the company to Trading Standards, Companies House and possibly HMRC if you can find information to do so. Perhaps your report saying they are a scam will cause the investigation. Moaning on here isn't going to get the information to the right people to shut it down.

I've no idea if that actually is one of/or indeed their address... Pic says a thousands words that's all, about what our general conclusion is about this company...

yep i noticed today that the site is now shut down. Glad thing i googled it before I placed an order for a Samsung 46" tv at an unbelieveable price.
I am now concerned that this site (http://www.gejjo.com/ ) has popped up and taken its place. Same telly at an even more unbelievable price. Except the danger signs are at the checkout. Payment is by BANK TRANSFER only! so people beware of this new site Gejjo.com!!!!!
