Lawn maintenance firms - any good

I've just laid a new turf lawn of about 70 square metres. It came from Rolawn (via my local builders merchant) and was their superior quality. It's looking very nice - especially after a lot of watering and a couple of very heavy downpours.
I'm thinking about having one of the firms who seem to keep putting leaflets through my letterbox look after it for the next couple of years (fert. etc not mowing) in the hope of keeping it really healthy.
Has anyone got any experience of using these firms and how much a year does it cost to have their three or four visits?
Thanks.

  • We sewed our lawn ourselves...backbreaking and painstaking work and for four years thought we did a fab job...then the weeds got it...foot width dandilions etc...My husband spent loasds on different things for it and he didn't do it any favours to be honest.
My family in Cornwall had a company called Green Thumb so after 2 years I gave in and called them. He assessed the soil and lawn and said it needed the basic treatment which is £15.00 per quarter. He has been twice now and I promise the difference is remarkable....green, weed free lawn. Alot of my friends etc use them now in Different parts of the country and all rave about them....highly recommend...good luck!!!
  • Thank you, that's very useful - this is the firm that is operating in our area now. Our friends have also told us how good they are. I think I'll give them a try.

i had them over for a "chat" and then do the work myself. Some of the works that might require hire of equipment - hollowtining if needed may well be worth getting them to do it but in my experience they seemed v professional and woudl have got them in if i wasnt tight!
  • Thank you for your comments, I think I'll give Greenthumb a go next spring.

My parents have used GreenThumb for a couple of years now. They just have the basic fertilizer/weedkiller treatments but the difference in the lawn is amazing. I don't think we could buy the stuff for the price they charge.
