Openoffice

I have downloaded this free from the net and use it for my budgeting spreadsheet. I am quite proficient and it works well for me, but is there a formula for transferring the sum of one cell onto another page within the same document, i.e. I have one page which states our incomings, then on another page this sum is used to calculate how much is left at the end of the month. At the moment, I have to remember to change it manually if there is a change in our income.

Does the above make sense? Not too sure.

Have you tried referencing the cell i.e. =Sheet1!E14 where Sheet1!E14 is where your total is?

Ho hum, I tried putting in the formula that was suggested (I seem to be able to figure out how to most of the other formulas, albeit simple ones, that I use), but it didn't work.

I'm trying to put a total from my Sheet 2 into a cell on my Sheet 1. I have called my spreadsheet different names to Sheet 1 and Sheet 2. Would this make a difference?

Obviously because you are trying to reference a particular cell on a particular sheet. You will need to change sheet1 to whatever you have renamed sheet1 to i.e. incomings.

I thought that too. So tried every which way and it still didn't work. Oh well, thanks anyway. Looks like I'll have to carry on doing it manually.

Well I use Excel not Openoffice but surely you can click on Help and see how to reference a cell on another worksheet.

I've tried and I'll have another look. I just didnt know what to put in as a search term. "Formula" seemed to broad and didn't come up with anything.

You would need to search for cell referencing however the above method works in Excel and I though that Openoffice was compatible with Excel worksheets? Perhaps Openoffice can't reference cells on another sheet. Perhaps an Openoffice user can answer this.

Have you tried entering '=' in the cell on Sheet 1 then clicking the cell on Sheet 2 and pressing enter. Works in Excel so should be the same in OpenOffice.
