I am using a PC that my son built for me from other PC's he no longer used.. the computer case says its a DELL but I am not sure how much he added or removed from the original how do I find this out , I guess somewhere I can look in the PC and it will all be listed but I have no idea where to look . Also I have no DVD re-writer I looked at PC world and I see they do an external one can this just be plugged into my PC so I can save stuff to disc?
Thanks and I know I am a complete idiot when it comes to understanding this stuff... no good asking son as he just fobs me off with gobbledygook....

Pffffffft Don't buy one from PC World mate. You will find them cheaper online I expect. Try http://www.ebuyer.co.uk or sommat like that

Nice call from expresso. Gr8 software for the job

An internal drive is much cheaper, just take the existing CD drive out, and put the dvd writer in, and install Nero etc..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I'd love to just do exactly what you said but I don't have a blooming clue where to start....:rotfl: but thanks for the suggestion..... and I will take your advice and not buy from PC world.....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

It really is simple, if your son won't help, people on here will, and there's always google.. I'm sure there are hundreds of guides out there on how to fit one, it is as easy as changing a fuse. Take the cover off, unscrew the CD drive, pull out the connectors, replace with DVD drive, replace connectors, and put case back together.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I agree with albertross. I did exactly that (and I know nothing about PC Hardware) and it really was as easy as that. Put the case on a surface where you can get access to both sides. In my case I then removed the front (only a push fit) and the sides (Slide fit), that gave me access to the screws that held the CDRom in place. I undid the screws, pulled out the two 'connections' from the rear of the CDRom and slid it out. Slid the new one back in and re-connected it (exactly the same connections). Replaced the sides and front and that was it. Job Done!! Great sense of satisfaction.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
