TAP Air Gatwick - Funchal Winter flights cancelled

In May I booked direct flights from London Gatwick to Funchal, Madeira for February 2012. I have just discovered, whilst searching on Trip Advisor forum, that TAP air have cancelled their direct Gatwick flights from November to May (I think)!

I have managed to find my booking online and I have discovered that my booking has been transferred and is now from Heathrow to Funchal, which is ok except that the flight now leaves at 06.40 which means I will have to pay for a hotel for the night before as we will be coming down from Yorkshire. The return flight doesnt arrive until 22.40 so we may need to stay overnight on return as well!

I have not had any contact from TAP air to inform us of this change and would be non the wiser if I had not been searching for something on Trip Advisor. I am not at all happy, but I presume that there is nothing we can do about it.

So I thought I would post this on here in case anyone else is in the same boat.

Article 8
Right to reimbursement or re-routing
1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between:
(a) - reimbursement within seven days, by the means provided for in Article 7(3), of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
- a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
(b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
(c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.

They've re-routed you for their convenience.
