Hello,
I've been offered a job in Leeds (yippee!). I'm moving up up in about 3 weeks and my wife and daughter at christmas (wife is teacher and can't leave her job until then)
Just wondered where is good to look? So far Guiseley (sp) Moortown, Rodley, Kirstall is where we've browsed but i'm not sure.
Any MSE help would be really appreaciated!
Thanks
Paul :money:

Where in Leeds will you be working? Are you looking at buying or renting? Leeds has lots of areas and commuting can be a nightmare if you're on the wrong side of town.0

i'm working in the city centre and will be looking to buy. Would like to be on the east side as my wifes family live near liverpool and this would make the commiute over there a bit easier.0

Pudsey's quite nice. Ditto Horsforth except for the plane noise, Parts of Headingley are nice too. Adel is nice but expensive. The most expensive parts of Leeds are generally the northern parts.
Areas to avoid in my opinion are: Seacroft, Gipton, Wortley, parts of Armley and parts of Bramley.
One thing you will notice is that nice areas are right next to not-so nice areas. It's weird but there we are.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
Adel, Chapel Alerton, Roundhay are nice. Chapel* not so much.Bored? Find something to do for the family? stuckinthehouse.co.uk0

Based on which side you'd prefer to be:-
Anything from cookridge, horsforth, calverley, rodley, farsley & pudsey are pretty ok.
I used work in the city centre and commute from the last 4 i've mentioned (over a period of years) without much of a hassle.
As an aside, Pudsey has a pretty regular train into Leeds.
Generally i'd avoid armley, beeston, wortley & to some degree parts/most of bramley.
As with most things even some of the areas mentioned above have good and bad places.
Also depending on what type of school your wife works at might influence where you want to be.0 -
Leeds is quite a diverse town and sometime moving in to a strange area can be easier if you are people you share empathy with, some areas are almost exclusive to certain groups, say for instance if you need to worship at a mosque or synagogue they are in particular areas and travel across Leeds to facilities as such would be a real hassle in rush hour.
Also certain sections of east+ west Leeds are a real pain to get out of and to the motorway.
If you have any preferences I can help with suggesting areas that may be more suitable .
Do you want rural with direct train travel or built up, some areas it is possible to walk for hours in concrete, some have some real nice countryside and direct train links to the city. .Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Your property budget and location of the school will largely dictate where you end up living. No point advising west Leeds if the school is in Crossgates, or north Leeds if the school is in Morley.
Commuting to Leeds centre by train is far easier (and cheaper) than bus so a railway station close by can be a bonus - also handy for weekend trips into town.0 -
I lived in Armley and Wortley for the money the places I lived were pretty decent. I was renting though. I also second the person that said Pudsey.Dec GC - budget £150 spend £7.620 NSD's!!! :T
Nov GC - budget £150 spend £113.93With 12 NSD's!!! :T0 -

I'm not sure how being on the East side of Leeds would make commuting to Liverpool easier, given that Liverpool is WEST of leeds.
Personally I'd recommend Lancashire as the best place to live if you have to work in Leeds. :cool:0 -
Have you tried looking on Gumtree for houses in the east of Leeds? Or Zoopla? They usually have a good spread of both options to rent and to buy.0
