can i connect desktop monitor to a tv

[FONT=&quot]i have a lcd monitor (with vga and dvi-d connectors) which is connected to the desktop via a vga cable, i would like to know would it be possible to connect the monitor to tv so can watch films etc that are playing on the monitor to the tv.

Can i use a div-d to hdmi cable, from the monitor to the TV, as someone has told me that wont work?
