income support and inheritence

hi can someone help me, i currently recieve income support housing benefit and DLA. i am named as beneficiary in a will - when do i have to inform the dwp is it when the will is read / when probate is granted / when i actually recieve my part of the inheritence? there is a house which is being done up and then sold and i get my money after the house is sold. please help

    If you own the house and it is being done up to be sold I would guess you would need to mention it as soon as you have an interest in the property not necessarily when it is sold and you get your share.

    yes because it gets counted as an asset , even thought it is not money in the pocket.
  • i think it can be ignored for benefit purposes for 6 months but not 100% sure
    the OP needs to speak to the dwp for advice on this

    Only if it is up for sale, then the six months ignored for benefit purposes.

    Are you going to become an owner of the house or is this work being done by the executors? If you aren't a part owner, wait until you get your money. If you are, tell the DWP as soon as the paperwork is done and you become a house owner.
