If you can feel them they're either not in the right position or quite a big size, try a smaller absorbancy (lilets are giving freebies at the moment http://www.lil-lets.co.uk/en-GB/Products/Free-Samples )
I prefered non applicator as i found them more comfortable, do you use applicator?
And yes with tampons you can swim but it's ideal to change them after swimming
