Wedding dress dilemma

Hi,

I am getting married next year and have found a beautiful wedding dress by Maggie Sottero, the only problem is it is £1450 which is WAY more than I am willing to pay.
I'm just wondering if there are any factory outlet or budget stores anywhere where I may be able to pick up the dress at a much more reasonable price. I live in the north east but am willing to travel a little if it is going to be worthwhile.
I have seen discussions about people buying dresses online from the US for a lot cheaper, I'm just scared about buying without having actually seen the dress first!
Any ideas??

You would be best asking this on the wedding board. :-)

Lots of ladies over there who may have answers for you.

  • try the wedding board, hidden under the "special occassions" board-they are very helpful ladies over there!

ebay, preloved, shop selling off their samples.

I got mine from a shop that was selling samples, this was all they did. I think they had another shop somewhere else and sent all the sample dresses to this one.

I got my Maggie Sottero dress for £484.

Where is the sample shop you found your dress?

As Olokia said, preloved and ebay are good places to look online. Also look out for shops selling samples and also having sales.
Another option could be to look into finding a local seamstress, taking along some pictures of styles you like and telling her your budget and see if she can make you something.

May I just say Please be careful if you have your dress especially made for you. Designers hold the copyright on THEIR creations and they can and will take a dressmaker and client to court for copying THEIR designs. of course you could take pictures of the TYPE of dress you like and make yours totally UNIQUE!

Dont fall for the cheap knock offs available from China! while they look good in the pics, many a bride has been so disappointed in the horrible fabric and terrible workmanship they have had to buy a dress locally at the last minute. My sis has a bridal shop and gets at least 3 or 4 brides a year coming in in tears because of this!

If ordering a dress from America or Europe be aware of THEIR sizing systems! dont just order a size 12 thinking its the same as UK - it isnt!
  • Yeah thats exactly why I'm scared to buy online - you can't guarantee what is going to turn up at your door!
  • Try Bridal Factory Outlet in Northallerton. I would also find out all the stockists of Maggie Sottero and phone the shops asking if they have a sample to sell. Maybe try joining a wedding forum too and asking brides on there if there is a similar, cheaper dress to the one you like.

You know what I did was called the company for a list of stockists and called all the ones in my area. I got my mori Lee dress for £500 and places were selling it for over £1000!
Alternatively there is a shop at hornsea outlet or is that not north enough?
