Consolidated over 6 years ago?

Apologies if this has already been asked...
I have recently been told by Lloyds TSB (2 phone calls and no letters yet, apparently lost in post) that they will be refunding me for PPI on a loan.
I spoke to my boyfriend about this, and he says that he took out a loan with Lloyds TSB over 6 years ago that had PPI on. This loan was then consolidated into another loan with PPI on. Then he consolidated a third time but cancelled the PPI part.
I was wondering whether anyone knows if he could put in a PPI claim because the only reason he consolidated twice was because of the PPI being added and he couldn't afford payments. He's a bit flakey as to when the first loan was last active and Lloyds TSB say they've conveniently lost the docs for the first two loans.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi there, tell him to ask for all information they hold on him, this will cost you £10 but may be worth it.
Or get him to go into a branch of Lloyds and ask for the info, they may just find this.0
