Credit Card Declined, Payment still Taken

Now 3 months down the line they have taken payment from my Credit Card, is that allowed? Is there anything I can do about this, why did they wait 3 months to take the payment and where were my card details in the meantime?
I spoke to my Credit Card company and they said I should speak to the shop about this.
I don't believe a word of this either. Trolling ?
The assistant would immediately know if the transaction is declined !!0 -
You should pay your credit on time...because some credit card company do not notify they just immediately cut your credit.0

If it was me, I would write to them and tell them what has happened and that although you admit you owe them money, they have taken it at a time which is inconvenient and you had not budgeted for.
Best case - you may get some free vouchers?
Worst case - you get nothing0 -
It does happen - although very rarely. I work for a large fashion retailer and used to work in the stores and it's not as difficult as it sounds. Probably some new member of staff getting confused. We have names and addresses of all customers though so on the odd occassion this happens we write to them to tell them they owe us money. Surprisingly most people actually will pay, thinking they've done something wrong...

Who said anything about not having correct data protection?0 -
Was this a small independant shop or some high street retailer? If the latter, why not write a letter of complaint and inform them you are seeking £x for the inconvenience they have caused? They might be nice enough give you something. If not, you're not out of pocket anyway so have no losses.
what inconvenience? the inconveinience of being charged when you thought you had bagged a freebie?
writing to them about that is basically admitting you took goods from the shop knowing you hadnt paid for them0 -

The inconvenience of incompetent staff not being able to process a sale correctly then waiting 3 months to take payment for goods.
The OP obviously doesn't keep as close on eye on CC transactions as is possible however this isn't a crime and the only blame lies with the business.
I definitely don't think the OP deserves to receive the goods for free but some goodwill gesture for the problem (caused wholly by the retailer) wouldn't be awful!0 -

how do you know the chip and pin machine didn't die half way through the transaction .. was unplugged for repair ...repaired a few weeks later and authorized the payment once plugged in
the fact that the customer would of entered the pin would guarantee the payment for the retailer if the goods had left the store and no charge back allowed
however if the retailer has manually entered in the card details at a later as a card not present then that would not of guaranteed a paymentI am NOT a mortgage advisor nor a professional in any debt related matters my replies to posts reflect my personal view only and experience in life time situations that may or may not be of any use to you if you need advice speak to a professional0 -
aimzrabbit - it is "would have" not "would of"

Any error with chip & pin machine would not have allowed a receipt to be printed. The member of staff processing the sale should not have allowed the customer to leave without the receipt being printed. They obviously didn't look at the slip which came out which was obviously a "declined" slip.
A lot of "what if"s for something which is clearly a store mistake. It happens more than you'd like to think.0
