Class 1 is the "old money" term for C+E (+3.5 tonne with trailer over 750kg)
Class 2 is just C (+3.5 tonne with or without trailer under 750kg )

Both have minimum age of 21 unless in armed forces when driving said vehicle

I doubt you will be getting the job, it will almost certainly be filled by someone who has their HGV. But it might be worth asking if they will take you and and train you up.
  • Wasn't there a police class 1 driving qualification at one time, maybe still is for all i know.

As said though it's the old HGV licence which covers you for virtually everything, still known as HGV 1 in truck drivers language.

And if it's commercial driving... you'll need to attend and pass a CPC course.

    Not quite.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_4022499

    Minimum ages

Driving an exempted goods vehicle is determined by its weight. Vehicles with a maximum authorised mass weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes may be driven at age 18 years. Vehicles which weigh more than 7.5 tonnes can be driven from the age of 21 years.
