Transfering I Pod Library

Hi
I am about to replace my old desktop computer using xp home for a new desktop with windows 7 and need my i pod library transferring from one to the other.
I had heard you can do this by using the actual ipod itself but I haven't a clue how to.
Is there a more basic method like copying and pasting.
Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this in the easiest possible way please with a step by step method for a non techie....lol.
Many thanks in advance
Mick

This article is for specifially using an ipod - but unless it's a Classic (ie with a hard drive) it's likely you'll have too much to store. Personally I'd follow the advice given for putting it onto an external hard but use your existing hard drive, then plug that hard drive into your new computer and load the library from there.

It has the advantage is that when - sorry if - things go wrong you'll have a proper backup.
