Christmas Markets

Its that time of year again - time to plan the annual christmas market trip. :j
Just wondered if anyone has been to Frankfurt or has any other places to recommend? I've been to Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Salzburg, Vienna and Budapest and am looking at going somewhere new this year. So far have thought about Frankfurt, Prague or even Hamburg. Need somewhere reachable from Midlands or Manchester/Liverpool but there don't seem to be any cheap flights about at the moment.
Anyone else planning their trips yet?

Trier is lovely and there are smaller ones around too like Bernkastle Kues which are lovely little places on the Mosel. Koblenz is also close by.0 -
I can recommend Bremen having been there in 2009. Off the usual beaten track (and hence very German!) and Ryanair fly there. The tram stops right outside the terminal and gets you to the centre in about 20 mins.
I would say the market was plenty big enough although not having been to one of the more famous markets I can't compare it to say Cologne or Salzburg.0 -
We were at Frankfurt 2 years ago and had an absolute ball. Friendly people, great market and it seems to go on for ever.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Thanks for the replies. Have been to Bremen and Trier (and driven down the Mosel and Rhine) in the summer so may consider these again. I want to go for 5 days so that may be too long in Trier without hiring a car. I really liked Bremen so that is a good option. I'm looking at Stuttgart too, never been there but have read that the market is big.0

Strasbourg's pretty good.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

The only "big" market I've been to was Prague and it was wonderful.
I usually try to go to Northern France at the time of the Xmas markets and stock up on goodies: most towns have small versions of the markets & I like them, but it depends what you are looking for.
You could stay in the UK and go to Lincoln!0 -

Not a big christmas market but if you want somewhere a little warmer, we went to Maderia 3 years ago just before christmas and stayed in Funchal. The weather was warmish and dry not what we had expected packing jumpers, wished we has packed some shorts. LOL. There was a nice little christmas market there with cute little grottos selling xmas things. The sellers dressed up as elves and the light display was great.0
