whether or not the low cost brokers offer the best quote when you do a trade
I have no idea how you would find out! I am sure that when I buy £500 of XYZ shares through my broker I will not get offered the same price as an institution buying £1m worth but I expect that. Either way, I am sure that it won't be more than fractions of 1p so on £500 it really makes little odds in the overall scheme of things.Old dog but always delighted to learn new tricks!0 -

You could sign up to two brokers and then sign in and get both trading screens up on the display. Then press the "get a Quote button" within a second of each other. Lot of effort tho !

Um... well if the shares are 1 pound each and are loaded by 0.5 pence then x 500 that is £2.50. Most people trade more than £500.
The problem is we just don't know what they get up to !
Not talking about institutional investors/brokers here just the cheaper brokers that charge £6 per trade instead of others that charge £120 -
I think The Share Centre has a couple hundred thousand clients, although don't quote me on that. I haven't personally used them, but sometimes read their blog which gives some decent insight.
A comparison of online share dealers is available here: http://www.investoo.co.uk/compare/compare-online-share-dealing/
II, Halifax, Barclays & TD are big names in this space too.
But as some people said here, X-O appears to be the cheapest, however I personally am not a fan of the way the website looks!0
