Outside of London, is there much point in a single male with no health needs and not living in overcrowded accommodation putting himself on the housing list?
Im thinking Bournemouth if its any help?

You might be accepted on the list but since you are not "vulnerable" you are highly unlikely to be offered a property. Even if you were homeless, a single man without any health problems is unlikely to be considered for a flat. The best they would get is a place in a B&B.0

You have more chance if you're on the list.
Lots of people just dn't bother - but if you're less fussy about where you want to live then they might well have something for you..
(Ie: don't just pick one small area with 3 council houses that have very healthy middle age people in)
There may be info on their site about the various areas and how many of each type/size they have.
Apply and see what happens.0 -
ive noticed people on here tend to find information saying how many people bid for properties and how long they were waiting, how do you get this information?0

I get the sense that Bournemouth is a pretty high demand area, especially as (imo) rents in the private sector are pretty high. Many people we know in bournemouth are paying almost london prices for rent, without the salaries to go with. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

There is nothing to be lost by going on't waiting list: In more than one local authority -or loads of them - if you want to...... but as indicated above (or if you've been in care, in forces, in nick etc..) it's very unlikely you'll get offered anything soon but you just might get lucky.
Councils have to have a housing allocation policy - it can be as simple as "prioritised in order of application" (but AFAIK never is that simple..). Your local councils will publish theirs e.g.
http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/Housing/AffordableHousing/HowtoApplyforAffordableHousing.aspx
The waiting lists are usually shared with local housing associations...
It would be cynical & reprehensible of me to note that many single blokes have got involved with ladies who then have babies, lady gets given social (cheaper..) housing with bloke on't back of it & then bloke get's chucked out to fend for himself: So I should not note this...0 -

And:
Homemove is the lettings scheme for council and housing association homes in Adur, Arun, Brighton & Hove, Chichester, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Mid Sussex, Rother, Wealden and Worthing, giving you more choice about where you want to live.

20 years ago when I'd been on the list for about 12 years I was told it'd be another 20 years before they could offer me a room in a shared house - and that was rural east anglia.0

I would say that i dont fancy your chances! I contacted my local council whilst trying to escape from a violent relationship, they told me that as im a single female, no health needs, no dependents, in full time employment that i wouldnt get a thing, i would just keep getting put to the bottom of the pile because even in those circumstances i was not considered vulnerable and if i left i would be making myself homeless. Basically as i had a good job i should fend/pay privately for myself!
Guess its always worth a go tho! your council might be more friendly!0 -
A single male friend of mine got a brand new one bedroomed flat after being on the list for about 15 years.0
