Hi, I had double glazing windows installed by Active Home Improvements, Margate, in January 2011.
Now I have found a crack in the top right hand corner of one of the windows.
I have connected the boss of the firm who maintains that as it is 9 months old, the manufacturers will not pay for a new window, and he will not pay out of his own pocket.
This firm is Fensa registered etc.
Should I take this to Trading Standards,
Regards,
John

It's past six months so you need to prove the crack was pesent at the time of manucture or that it cracked due to an inherant fault. You would need an independant engineer to do this.
Is it a crack in the glass or frame, seems strange that it's not been noticed in nine months. It may be that movement in the house has caused it to crack.0 -
Could equally be poor fitting has caused the crack to develop. (See any of the many TV shows like Cowboy Trap etc.).
The main issue though is proof - you would need to prove it was poor fitting and/or construction and/or materials that caused the crack. Getting a report from a reputable engineer should provide the answer - and if the report finds in your favour then the cost of the report must be also refunded by the retailer.
Does the manufacturer not also provide a warranty?
Wouldn't hurt to contact CAB or consumer direct about this.0
