backup your phone using Samsung's PC software then do a factory reset on the phone and see if it's any quicker...
    Is it an Android phone?

What kind of noise? You mean the little ticks for when you press a letter, or "thinking" noise that it shouldn't be making?
Is it 3 mths from new, or second hand?

    The software is called "KIES"
    Get it here:
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobilesoftwaremanual/mobilesoftwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL

I'd try a factory reset of the phone, it should not me making any noise except for a small click (To let you know you've pressed a letter).

yes its the click noise when you tap the letters. so say i type hello, nothing shows on the screen. then slowly you hear the clicks and the word appears but its about 3 seconds per letter!
