I did like the Auris but then went off it somewhat as a bit lack lustre. I haven't considered a Golf for over a decade as I thought them overpriced, new and second hand.0

An abstract but good summary. I have 2 Auris, and I'd sum them up as ok, the interior rattles a lot and the quality/reliabilty isn't up with Toyota's other products. The golf is usually massively overpriced. I'd buy a Skoda Octavia or a civic.0 -
Common misconception regards the pricing of Golfs. Just do a like for like with the Astra/Focus/Megane regards equipment levels etc. You might be suprised.
For me I'd go with the Golf.... but I'm biased.0
