Garden Office Insurance

Hi everyone,

I've got a garden office (log cabin) as I work from home.

The contents are covered by my household insurance but the structure is currently not insured.

This is because I live in a Housing Association / Council owned property.

The contents are covered by my contents insurance but i can't seem to get the structure insured because I don't own the land it's built on, and I don't have buildings insurance which would normally cover it because i'm a tenant. The funny thing is my tenancy actually makes me more secure than most people these days so i'm a safe bet for the insurance company.
I'm concerned that if nature throws a curveball and the structure gets damaged then i'm stuck!:( Does anyone know of a policy that would cover this?
Thanks for your help :money:

Sorry I don't know but how about trying someone like Towergate?

Talk to an independent broker. They may be able to find an insurer who will underwrite a policy with a specifically covering your home office.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Can't see any major problem with adding say £5000 of buildings to the contents policy, but specify it is for the garden office and declare it is wooden construction, and ensure your interest is noted, the only other category it would fall under is Tenants Improvements, but this is more for a commercial policy than a private one.

Some contents policies cover "property in the open" up to a certain amount - possibly up to a couple of thousand pounds. But you would need to check with your insurer if they would cover all items within your boundaries.

Apologies for dragging up an old thread but found this via google and thought it may be useful to someone else. Try calling office/business insurance companies such as premierline direct or endsleigh business insurance - I tried places like henshalls, john lewis insurance etc and they didn't seem interested.
