Lloyds TSB PPI Claim via Consumer Money Matters/Key Claims

The other day I received a letter from Lloyds TSB Bank, informing me that I had been successful in claiming back my PPI for a large loan. The problem, however, is that I was successful because I utilised one of the many claim companies - Consumer Money Matters/Key Claims.

I am set to receive a substantial £7,200 in compensation, but the claims company will want their 29% share of this amount, reducing my payment to £5,112.

On the day I got the letter from Lloyds TSB, I telephoned the bank to thank them and to enquire as to whether Key Claims had also been sent a copy of the letter? The person I spoke to on the phone said that their records showed that Key Claims had not been sent a copy of the letter. I immediately asked Lloyds to revoke all authority towards Key Claims, so that they would not be given or told any further details of my claim.

However, the very next day I received a letter from Key Claims stating that Lloyds TSB had been in touch and that they had received a copy of the same letter I had the day before.

Basically, I now realise it was stupid to go through a claims company in order to get back my PPI money. I have already paid them £120 when their assessor came round to my house and conducted an interview to see if I had a valid PPI case.

Is there anything I can now do to try and stop Key Claims getting their hands on my money? I am so much in debt and to "lose" over £2K will cripple me even further.

No - you entered into a contract which is legally enforcible.

I suggest you download, and read, Martin's Teen Cash Guide.

That way you are less likely to get caught out again.

That isnt the reason you were successful. Claims companies do not increase the success rate. Indeed, there is some argument that they lower the odds as many use template letters which can give reason to throw doubt on the complaint and can damage your chances of success in areas where there is no evidence.

Nope. You agreed to use a claims company. You signed a contract agreeing their price. They did their job, no matter how little it was, and now you need to pay them what you agreed.

You should not enter in contracts if you dont want to pay people.

  • That's totally ridiculous. You have paid for a service and they have done a good job in getting you back a lot of money. I was visited by one of these guys after I tried to do it myself and failed. I wasn't taking any risks with my other claims and I got alot of money back, more than I expected and I was very happy for them to take their cut for finding more I never knew I had.

Would you work for somebody for free, after spending many hours on a job expecting to be paid at the end?

You've bumped up a year-old thread to berate a poster who himself hasn't been on the site for a year?
