Hi
I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5103 laptop from https://www.laptopsdirec.co.uk
The laptop comes pre-loaded with 3 items of software which you are given a proper license for. The soft is Power DVD 6.0, Power DVD Producer 3, and NTI DVD & CD Maker 7.
I work in IT so I am well aware of how restore CD's work and are created. You are prompted to make a recovery set when you first use the laptop. However you do not get the CD's for the items of software that I have mentioned, so if for example you have to re-install one of this applications if it has become corrupted you cannot, you can only restore the laptop back to base factory build. Also, most new laptops or desktops now get a free upgrade voucher to Windows Vista, the new operating system from Microsoft, so if you install this new operating system again you cannot install the software that has come with the machine because you don't have the CD's.
To me this is unacceptable, I have had quite a few systems over the years and I have never had any one provider do this. I spoke to the senior customer service advisor at laptopsdirect.co.uk who was not interested who referred me to Acer directly. I spoke to Acer last week who agreed to supply the install CDs for said software, a week later it had still not arrived so I rang up again to find that the call I had logged last week had not been "recorded and they had no record of the conversation" and that I was not entitled to the CDs nor would they supply them.
I believe this is wrong, any new system you buy should come with the restore cd's and the means to re-install any software, what can I do?
Some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Colin
