Off work because of Bipolar

Hope you can help, Doctor has put me off work because the tablets I take for Bipolar 2 disorder have stopped working, I am unable to work, I am worried because I cant work at the moment, what pay will I get, I work 40 hours a week and have been with the company just under 6 months,
I have 2 children to look after on my own, Worring is making it worse.

Claim SSP for 28 Weeks (with any Company Sick Pay), if still ill then Claim ESA (C), then ESA (IR)

I have that condition too, Have you tried for DLA ? I was awarded indef 8+ years ago.

You should get sick pay from your employer, might not be much, but with tax credits etc you should be able to manage.

Hope they sort meds out for you, I know how frustrating it can be.. :A

Thanks for your replies, I have only been diagnosed 3 months, finding the whole thing confusing! Love my work it keeps me going but just cant concentrate at the moment, its no good going in and making mistakes. will look into this .

Do you drive or have a licence?

If you do bi polar is a notifyable illness for the DVLA, you need to let them know asap and stop driving until they tell you can or your insurance is invalid and you will be driving not in accordance with your licence (in police speak)

I gave up work at end of June due to bi-polar. I had been off sick for 6 months, first getting sick pay from work, then SSP. I applied for ESA on 1st July and am STILL waiting for any money to be paid to me. If you have to go on to ESA, be prepared to be very broke for a while..... I have run up a large credit card bill just to feed us.

Whilst the DVLA should be notified, there is no compulsion to stop driving in the meantime (unless a doctor has advised otherwise).

You should never drive until the DVLA say that you can when you have a notifiable condition, you can ring and ask for advice, the DVLA staff member will tell you wether you can or cant drive (after looking it up on the system) while your case is evaluated.

Any change of drugs for reportable conditions or some drugs full stop need to be reported too, every driver needs to be aware of the list of conditions/drugs that need to be reported (I have mislaid the necessary link at present) for themselves and everyone elses safety.

I never notified DVLA, I ended up losing my license because I went a bit silly with my BP, 7 years later I had to re sit my test a total of 4 buddy times then passed.

Please let them know, and don't drive until you are certain your stable on/off medication.

I know your dx, your carering job and you mentioned you had a bit of bother with regards to your licence/meds/dx, thankyou for posting your real life experiance on this thread darlyd.

You have come through the worst for now but none of us whats round the corner, thats life
