Sky Internet Connection Problems.

Hi,
Been messing with this trying to sort it out all day and still none the wiser. The above is all I get on that bit, sometimes the X goes but mostly it's there.
- I have tried unplugging everything and resetting it all.
- I have been on the phone with sky for over half an hour but all he could say is was it 'might' be the filter, so he's sending a new one out by next Friday!! - I use the internet for work so this is a disaster.
- I have tried changing the channel a few times.
It does work for a few minutes, the most being 10 so far, then it goes off. The light is constantly going from green to flickering to orange and off and back.
Does anyone else think that the filter might be the problem? It worked fine a week ago but since I have been told it has been on and off a lot (I have been away)
- If it is the filter, can't I just go out and buy one, or will only the sky one work?
- If it's not the filter what does anyone think it could be and fixing suggestions?
There has been a lot of new networks gone up around here recently, so that's why I tried a few channel changes to see if anyone else's was interfering with ours.
Now I have tried all that I don't know what's up with it but am really needing it to be working asap.
Thanks for reading.

How old is your router? Mine lasted three years before it eventually died.
Have you tried changing the ethernet cable or do you just use wireless?Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
It's only about two years old. And we normally never have the ethernet plugged in as we operate mainly on laptops at the moment. Maybe I should try plugging that in? But that wouldn't fix the router going off and on and the wireless which is what we use. Really wish I knew more about computers.
Never had this much trouble with it, don't know if buying a new filter would work or not, can't wait until Friday for sky to send one out.
It's took me this long to post this comment. Internet is very slow as well when it is working which is not often at the moment.0 -

before buying anything have you even tried to connect something else?? it could be your laptopIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
If you go to a little independant, buy a filter for a couple of quid, job done..........................make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

So why do you not have a business package? You would probably get better support (not that Sky is particularly bad).
Can you not get a filter yourself if it's that important. £5 or so. Put it down as a business expense.

even a pound-shop ADSL filter will do for testing purposes (I've had some crackers from a pound shop). Have you plugged the router into the test socket yet ?? If so, is it still the same ?? But, filter rather than router from the symptoms you describe seems most likely bet. Are you on sky's LLU service (phone line from sky ??).......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Looking at the above it is saying the problem is not between the computer and the router, rather it is between the router and the internet (if you believe the schenatic. (I assume that you have rebooted the router, always the first thing to try)
Possible causes are:
1, Microfilter - change it (always need a spare anyway)
2. Phone cable - change it.
3. Internal phone wiring - as previous poster said, remove front panel of master socket, and plug yr router directly into the test socket (eliminates internal phone wiring),
4. Phone line - call your llu provider, Sky, Bt and ask them to check the line, and fix if necessary.
5. the router - the one provided by Sky is a b*st*rdised netgear DG834, with abridged Sky software - you will need to ask them to provide an alternate - according to the contract you signed, you are not supposed to use another.0 -

I didn't even know about this so thanks, have only been working from home for the past year or so online.
I have been out today and bought a new filter, fitted it and it's still the same dropping out. Sky have said it's not their end but I'm not sure they know what the problem is at all.even a pound-shop ADSL filter will do for testing purposes (I've had some crackers from a pound shop). I have plugged direct into the test socket with my old filter and the new one I have been out to get today. Still the same. So annoying as I'm lost what to do now. All I have told sky about this afternoon is that on the Sky help centre page, it has a bit where it says:
TV/no issues.
Broadband/Issues
Talk/Issues.
Sky go&web/no issues.
Does this mean anything? Is it sky doing something on the lines and we're all running round thinking its at our end?
Though when I click on the issues bit it says it's not in this area. Confused :huh:before buying anything have you even tried to connect something else?? it could be your laptop
We have three laptops in the house and a PC, last night I connected up the ethernet to the PC - still the same. And we have the problem on all three laptops, my sisters is old but the other two are fairly new and have been working fine.0 -
It's definately the router that needs replacing. Mine went the same way. I'll send you a PMEstate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0
