Which Survey should we go for?

We are interested in buying a semi-detached house, built I would say, around 1970ish, we are cash buyers, no mortgage, and are wondering if we need a full survey on a property of that age. We may not even end up getting this house, but we just started talking about what we would do if we did, and surveys came up, so I thought I'd ask on here and would appreciate any advice. There are no structural additions to the house at all, and all rooms are still as they were when the house was built, apart from the lounge/dining room wall is partly knocked through. We can afford a full survey if necessary, but obviously don't want to spend unnecessarily, so would appreciate some advice on this.

Assuming you've got no inside information about problems with houses in that area / street (either their construction or subsidence etc), I'd go for a homebuyers survey.0

I would always go for a full structural. For the sake of a couple of hundred pounds it could save you far more in the future.0

In your situation I'd probably do a Homebuyer's Report, and then get experts in on any areas flagged up as being of concern. A full structural never hurts though.0

Full structual unless you're buying a new build. It amazes me how people are prepared to make the biggest ever purchase of their life without getting someone in to check whether it's falling down or not, has damp, dry rot, roof issues - these all cost money to fix. Plus it only costs a few hundred quid more.0

Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

The best survey you can comfortably afford....a full structural if you can manage it. It buys peace of mind and a full list of what needs doing along with cost estimates. You arn't caught flat footed when the roof starts leaking on day 2.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
