NTL - Debt recovery

Hi all,
hope someone can help me with this. A guy in my office asked me an interesting question which i have to say i cant help him with, but i was hoping someone on here might be a bit more clued in...
His "partner" has just got a letter, from a debt recovery company asking for £180. it turns out that there is an outstanding debt from 6 years ago when she stopped taking their services. NTL wont tell them about the debt as it is in the hands of the collection agency and they have had no contact from them in the past 6 years. for the first two years after she stopped using them, she was at the same address so its not as if they couldnt get hold of her.
are there any rules about lengths of time to claim outstanding debts. or perhaps how NTL's procedures work in terms of contacting old customers...
thanks

Moderator please move this to the Debt Free Wannabe board, you'll get a better response there.
You can't enforce this sort of debt after 6 years of no contact IIRC, so the details are important. There are also "iffy" debt recovery companies who buy old debt and try this on. The DFWs are the best people to ask.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0
