Selling a car for scrap

I have a 10 year old Fiat Punto which is currently SORN. Due to finding out it was in a category C accident and not repaired, it is not safe to drive. It's been on my drive for over 8 months now. (I won the court case but have yet to see any money but that's another story).
Does anyone have any experience with the online 'we'll scrap your car' dot come type of companies? I have no idea how trustworthy they are. Should I just ring a local dealer and accept what is offered?

We used Cartakeback.com, got £130 for a 02 Suzuki Alto that was previously cat d - paid very little for it a couple of years previously so pleased. It was way to expensive to repair to MOT standard so nice to get that money back in it.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

bang it on eBay as spares or repair starting at scrap value. Somebody may want the engine, or they might want to take it to repair or break. Worst case scenario - you don't sell it and have to scrap it. Best case scenario - it sells and you make more than you expected.0

Another vote for cartakeback.com if you're going to scrap it - got paid in cash exactly what the online quote said, sorted all the paperwork, V5 etc, and emailed me the cert of destruction promptly. Got £150 for a 1999 Rover 414. including them picking it up.0

Yes, if you decide to scrap it, Cartakeback.com gets my vote too. I got £165 for my 1995 Seat Ibiza. I rang my local scrappy to check how much they would give me if I delivered it there (still had MOT, but no prospect of getting another!), and they only offered £140.
Cartakeback contacted me promptly, arranged a collection date, and they came when they said they would, collected the car and gave me a cheque.0 -
Another vote for Cartakeback - my old car wouldn't start and had been recovered to a local garage so ebay wasn't really an option... cartakeback collected it from the garage and sent me £150 by bank transfer.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Thanks very much - that's really helpful. Cartakeback it is then!

Make sure they are licensed environment agency and licensed with local authority. ask what local authority they are registered with and call them same with environment agency get there license number and check it online and as your car is going to be scrapped it is waste they must also give you a waste transfer note.Police and Environment ageny will enforce this if they stop them with you car you both get fined £160 each.0
