Would not disclosing colour change make insurance void in an accident

Options
Hi, Just wanted to clarify something. If you're involved in an accident and haven't told your insurance company that you have completely changed the colour of your vehicle and added business logos, would it be void in the event of an accident?
Thanks

  • The insurance company could refuse the claim, as it's a material fact.

They certainly would if you don't have appropriate business insurance.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

even with comercial policys you have to say if sign written
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

In what way is the colour material?

I guess it would be material if the insurer only insured red vans say. If the OP painted theirs green instead of leaving it red that would be material;) as they would not have insured it if they knew it was green...........................:P

Business logos - I assume you had business insurance.

On a slightly related note, I have a new car, well new to me, was preowned by the garage but is 2011 registered. It says it is black on the log book, in fact it is a deep purple (nissan). Must do something about it.
  • Hi again, My reason for the question in the first place is that someone crashed into me. His vehicle states the colour "white" on the DVLA site and yet it is another colour with business logos.

He is to blame for the accident (rear end bump) but is disputing. I'm just wondering if his insurance is valid that's all.

I would say you will be ok as the TP in this case. Why is he disputing, is he saying it wasnt him?

    Sorry, what is "TP"?

Yes, he said it wasn't his fault and I reversed into him. He didn't want to go through the insurers and said that he would put me at fault if I took this stance :( Heading for a court case as I refused to accept 50/50. Plus my premiums have shot up!! I'm furious as you can imagine.

I ws kinda cluthing at straws with the paint job I know but I thought that if this was an undeclared modification, he would be heading for trouble!!!
  • We were hit by a (genuine) white van a few months ago. He said it was our fault as we should have gone through the traffic light on amber then he would have been able to stop!

Insurance company took a rather different view and said that a rear end impact is almost always 100% fault of the car behind (I guess the only exception would be if you really did reverse into him :-)

To be honest, I'm not sure the colour issue will help you, think it might make matters worse. If his insurance is invalid then you are left trying to get him personally to pay up.

Hadn't thought of that to be honest  What would the implications be for me then?
I certainly didn't reverse into him. I was the one who reported the incident to the Police immediately and gave details of a witness who months later can't recall the accident. No luck there then:(
