New in - advice appreciated

I have already started a budget plan and have listed all creditors - even those awkward annoying ones who never seem to listen! :p After all has been paid out there is £100 left a month to pay off the debts. I have worked out payments on a pro-rata basis so that the money is shared out evenly - but the major problem I am having is understanding the defualt notices and what they mean and can they add anything onto the balance after one has been issued. (I have been told by a few different people yes, no, don't know, don't think so - and so on).

Also I have asked on numerous occasions for standing order form to be able to pay but have either had no reply or letters telling me that I haven't paid and will have court procedings/doorstep collectors etc. Are there any suggestions as to how I can deal with this problem.

Current Debts:

1. Barclaycard 851.67
2. Capital One 251.28
3. Littlewoods 660.67
4. Egg 1479.05
5. CIT Finance 691.10
6. Littlewoods Catalogue 1890.11
7. Great Universal 1097.97
8.Choice 632.14
9. Halifax Visa 1227.34
10.Halifax Overdraft 1102.37
11.Saga 249.37
12.Wescot 134.92
13.Wescot 354.20
14.Buchanan,Clerk and Wells 409.90
15.Buchanan,Clerk and Wells 2419.25

Total Debt = £13,451.34

The main one for cutting out would be the tobacco - bad thing - but I am keeping it on there for the present time until can get to the docs for something to help me quit. (and hopefully they will have another option than patches, gum, lozenges, inhalators and zyban!)

could you explain a little about your situation..do you have a partner , how many people is £350 feeding, is this level of income temporary or is it fairly permanent,
phone at 43 is vey high what does it include?
  • have partner and one child - the 350 also includes money used for birthday presents/cards (or sales get xmas presents early). the phone is domestic, plus internet access and money to top up mobile (usually a couple of pounds a month to keep line going)
the income is a fixed amount and should remain permanent - for the wages part anyway - the only other amounts that will change are the benefit ones - dependant on how much the government decides we are allowed from April. I know the child tax credit will go up to £160 in May and then to £178 in October.

Welcome, the housekeping seems quite high you could shave a lot off this. You know the tobacco needs to be addressed. Is there any way you could look for a reconditioned tv(or look on frecycle perhaps)thus saving you the monthly rental. Also clothing budget can this be cut down? Finally, what about selling on ebay, registering on sites like pigsback and quidco won't make you rich but may well help you to stretch things. Good luck.

  • That only works out at £87 a week and like I said includes for birthdays of which there are 3 in Jan, 3 in Feb, 2 in Mar, 3 in May, 1 in June, 2 in July, 2 in August, 1 in Sept and i do my xmas shopping throughout the year present wise - not just for food alone. This amount was told to me by the cccs anyway which is why i am using this amount.

The tv amount is mainly for the licence because we owe from missing some payments.

The clothing budget is for 3 - so that makes £3.58 per person per week.

I do have an ebay account and we are looking into thngs we can sell.

Does anyone have any advice on the default notice aspect of my initial question please.

Are you on a DMP with CCCS? If so then I think that is inevitable that you will be issued default notices. These mean that you have broken your contract with the creditor. They affect your credit rating, and are entered onto your credit report. However CCCS should be dealing this for you. It is part of the DMP process. Debt Collection Agencies try to scare you ref court appearances to make you pay more than you can realistically afford.

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Thank you for that - I am not on a plan with them because they said to me they can't help until I am able to pay a minimum of £5 to each of my creditors - which I have only recently been able to get to - I can afford the £5 to each but this will prolong the debt and i don't want to have it on my back forever which is why I did my own pro-rata payments. Then the more I owe to one the more they get - the others get just over or under £2 - not a lot I know but I have more calculations to do when I know the new benefit amounts and they will get increased payments then.

So the default notice means simply that I haven't paid - and then are they still entitled to add more money onto the debt - have I got that right!?!
