I hope it's OK to post here...I have asked this question on the weddings board which I'm a regular user of but am aware that responses there stand a good chance of coming from younger brides-to-be who might either be a lot more daring or alternatively see a 47yr old as pretty ancient (I know how I viewed late 40s when I was that young lol). I'm hoping that this board has a few more women my age who know where I'm coming from!
I get married in 5 weeks, I'm 47, I'll be wearing silver dress with purple as my theme - jewellery has amethyst in it, bridesmaid is in a short cadbury purple dress and my shoes (which wil be mostly hidden) are the same purple. My bouquet will be mostly cream roses, with a few flashes of purple freesia and lots of greenery. My wedding is a civil ceremony at a zoo so it's not all staid and traditional :)
I've come down to needing to make a decision about my finger nails...do I go traditional and have them in a pink/natural colour, or wear purple colour on my nails. I had them done yesterday to try out the salon as I never usually do anything with my nails. Currently they are a plum colour that I love, there's also a cadbury purple available. But at the same time I'm also a bit of a coward and wonder if I should stay more safe. Cant decide!!!!!

  • Go for the purple nails!!

I had the same colour (as a bridesmaid) last week and they looked fab, was so pleased with them. I almost went with a neutral french manicure but glad I went for the purple.
With a silver dress and pale flowers it will make such a nice contrast!!

I dont live too far from Chester Zoo - what a lovely place to get married!

Hope you have a great day!

I'd second the purple nails, especially as your are wearing silver.

I think it will look much fresher and more modern.

    Hello :)

I got married in April as a 25yo bride and had an American manicure (like a French one but with a pinker sheen to it). My theme was purple too and I did think about purple nails but decided I wanted my photos to be more classic. A lot of things will affect your decision (e.g. is it your first marriage? Do you care so much about having a 'traditional' feel to the photos as a result? What kind of ceremony are you having? etc) - but ultimately I had quite a traditional ceremony and day so kept things neutral. However, because I had a small wedding, when it came to the big boat party reception in the UK in July I did go for purple nails :D Good luck deciding x
  • Go on, go purple, you know you want to and, just in case you thought it did, age has nothing to do with it!

    Good luck for your wedding.

If it was traditional I;d say play it safe, but it's not, so go with the Purple baby!

Another vote for purple here - I think it will tie in with your colour scheme and will look nicer than introducing another colour, IYSWIM?

47 is not ancient to ge getting married - I was just 50 when we tied the knot 3 years ago! :D

Hope you have a lovely day!

I would go neutral, the pics will look good for years to come and imho too bright colours on a certain age (I'm not far behind you;)) scream I'm trying to hard:o Neutral doesn't have to be french manicure though, a grey colour might suit or something beige or a light pink which is flattering - have a great wedding:)
Thank you for this site Martin

I think either would look good

I'm a year or two ahead of you age wise and almost always have my nails painted in a fairly strong colour. At the moment they are a gorgeous dark wine colour so I'd personally have the purple - or possibly a silver minx wrap.

Purple purple purple. Even the metallic high sheen purples you can get now. It will go, it will look like an amazing extra touch, it will go with your outfits/shoes/flowers.

    Just do it :-)

(only if you want to of course!)

  • on the other hand, french manicures look lovely, no matter your age and will go with anything you wear after the wedding, esp for a honeymoon and are generally very low maintenance
