I don't know if you've been in Goa the last two years at xmas but since the Sensex shot back up the 'louder' Indian tourists have have rather taken over, no problem at all with that, good luck to them it is their county after all,
but not for us - pass the humbugs - quickly!!
Penang, Christmassy well more so that other places but not exactly Oxford Street in festive September.
Christmas is what you make it, and we make is as unxmassy as possible. No cards, pressies nothing. Xmas last year cost me ziltch

i went to tenerife for xmas a few years back, the hotel had a xmas tree on display, but it was so different from xmas at home, it was so relaxing to get up on xmas day sit out on the balcony in the sun,i had even forgot it was xmas day until the lady on the next balcony shouted happy xmas to me.
we were sat on the beach havin a pint on xmas day instead of cooking dinner.....it was heaven.
i would love to do another xmas holiday but the difference in price between a week before or a week after puts me off booking.0 -

Actually, Spain is manageable at Christmas. Everything shuts down on the evening of Christmas Eve but Christmas Day itself is just like any other holiday - bars and restaurants are open and public transport still runs. For most people Epiphany (Jan 6) is a bigger event that Dec 25.
I've spent a couple of Christmases in Barcelona and it's great fun. You get such a multinational crowd who are all away from home so the bars are always busy.
I like to get away for Christmas. I don't have much of a family and since I have the week off work, I'd rather be somewhere else rather than sat at home in the cold watching crappy TV.0 -
Lol at this thread, I am exactly the same I hate xmas here and the 2 years have been fortunate to get away. I think you will be safe pretty much anywhere other than USA, and the capital of European countries. You may see the odd tree and subtle decoration but nothing like here in the uk or worst still London! 2 years ago went Kenya and other than the decoration Xmas day party and new years its hard to feel xmassy in scorching heat and White sand on the beach, lol0
