Moving back to UK after 12 years overseas. Have 2 small children now and will be getting jobs asap however at the start I was wondering if there would be any monetary support available for my children and their schooling and in fact for us too in order to tide us over for the first month or so...

Schooling is free - you need to get in touch with your LEA and local schools ASAP to get places arranged.

What age are the kids?

You could possibly claim Income Support, Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits. You'll be subjected to the habitual residence test though for Income Support.

the OP uses the words 'us' and 'we' at times other than talking about the kids, so i assume they are a couple.
and as a couple wouldnt be eligable for income support.

Well, they didnt mention a partner, if they have a partner then JSA is the benefit and the HRT will still apply.

you may have to wait before being given child benefit (but apply at once) to establish habitual residence
if the country you're coming from doesn't have a mutual agreement with the uk
