How much does it cost to replace the wooden bit on a window sill?

Options
One of ours has rotted (the outside bit, just above the stone slab) and I have a strong suspicion this is one of those things that are staggeringly expensive to get replaced :( can anyone advise? (we don't have the DIY skills to address this ourselves, unfortunately)

House is about 100 years old if that makes any odds.

thanks!

    The sill? Not much...
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

If the rot is confined to the outer edge of the sill then it may be possible to saw off the bad wood ( or remove it with a router ) and glue/screw in a new piece. This should not cost a fortune.
If the rot has reached the joints with the jambs ( the sides ) then you have a much bigger problem which may lead to replacing the window.
Use a small screwdriver to poke the sill and see how far the rot extends.
    Forgotten but not gone.

Thank you. This is the sort of thing I was worried about. It is pretty badly rotted, but as far as i can tell it's confined to the wooden bit. Are the 'jambs' the edges of the actual window frame? I don't think it touches those but it certainly won't be long.

Other thing I really need to know is who do I call to fix this?

its a fairly simple job. a handyman could do it in a few hours, max.
chisel the old one off and insert/glue a new piece in.
assuming its just the outer cill.
    Get some gorm.

If the rot has not reached the frame sides then you can rescue the situation without too much trouble and expense.
I recommend that you get a quote from a carpenter to do this as he/she will have all the necessary tools.

I was having the same problem, thanks to this. This can be an alternative than buying new one. If in case I'm going to buy a new one, how much could it be? I mean the approximate cost of the whole.. Thanks!

I can't answer that - depends on size , locks or no locks, any requirements for toughened glass and number of openers.
