Yes, because falsifying a service history is worth the extra £500 or so they'd get for the car....

    Clearly it is....
Some unscrupulous dealers will even stamp your logbook for you, cash in hand.

There is no reason whatsoever to ever use a dealership to service your car, they're over priced, some don't actually do the work (go ahead marker pen your air/oil filter, I dare ya :p ) and you can maintain your warranty by getting it serviced by any VAT registered garage, provided they use original OEM parts.

I take it you work in every main dealer in the UK then ? Or is this just yet another unsubstantiated opinion ?

And main dealers can be cheaper. For example.... my Audi runs 322 mm discs up front. Parts alone at every motor factor I've looked at are more than what any Audi dealer will do the job for me. (even though I have no need to use one with my backgroud)

So why are they cheaper ? Because Audi actually run an affordable servicing plan for their customers.

The general idea that all [STRIKE]stealer[/STRIKE]dealerships are rubbish/theifs is just pure and utter tripe.

Well.... Yet again, until the few outnumber the many, perceptions will never change. There are always good and bad, many of the newer independent dealerships are MUCH better than those of old, but the like of EH (for example) will continue to blight the industry with there now institutionalised dishonesty.

And remember it only takes one poor management decision to turn at entire companies employee base into "out for themselves and f*ck everyone else" people. But it takes years and years to fix that damage once the rot sets in, in fact it's often easier to sack everyone, change the company name and start again, than it is to repair the damage and corruption caused by one man's poorly judged decision to micro manage his employee's (for example).

Sure, why not? It's only like everything else in life, only it's got slightly more grounding in fact, reality and experience.
I wonder if a car dealership would employ some guy covered in tattoo's and sporting a purple mohican? Entirely unjustified discrimination, but perfectly acceptable?

Never trust "target driven" companies with your money.

If someone is gonna try to rip me off i'd rather it wasn't hidden behind pretty neon signs, fancy flags and "free" tea/coffee/biscuits. And i'd rather it was because they were greedy rather than because their boss recently told them off for "not meeting targets". I actually have slightly more respect for those who try it on for personal gain, than I do for those who cower in their office sending drones out to do their dirty work.

Well, hopefully people will read that and take your biased offers of advice with a pinch of salt now.
  • best advise is to get any prospective vehicle indipendantly inspected, dealers nor private sellers can be trusted!
  • This could be perfectly legitimate to be honest.

As well as asking for stamps in the book i'd also request copies of the invoices for the service too, wait while they print them out and that way you know everything is kosher.
  • I went to look at a car once that said full service history in the advert. Turned out all the seller had was a stamped up service book and the current MOT certificate. I wouldn't call that "Full Service History".
