Too much money into my account!

I recently sold an item and gave the buyer my bank account number and sort code so that he could transfer the money into my account. We both hold Santander accounts so this happened quickly.
However, the bank made the payment of £210 three times to my account on the same day.
What is the correct way to put this right please, should the bank sort it out or should I refund the money to him myself?

Tell the bank to sort it,
He may get the money from you then contact the bank, the bank will see 3 payments and then they could in effect refund him again.
Better safe than sorrymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yup. Leave the money in your account and get the bank to sort it.
Do it yourself and you could end up £420 down on this.0 -
Thanks both, I thought this would be best but I feel bad for the guy and feel he is probably going to ask me to refund. I will stand my ground and insist the bank sorts it out - at least it's the same bank so shouldn't be too hard...should it!!0

It might be the guy's fault, rather than the bank's fault ...
After all, you left it to him to do the transfer of funds.
Perhaps he did it 3 times by mistake.0 -
