Hi there

trojan-spy.win32@mx

Hoping someone can help. My Dad (again) says that he keeps getting warnings about this and it appears in the system tray. I think it is a piece of malware but not entirely sure (there doesn't seem to be anything about it on the symantec or mcafee sites).

He is running Norton, Ewido Anti Spyware, CCleaner, Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Do you know if a full system scan with these will help or will it be more complicated?

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate all your help.

Thanks. I think I'll get to get him to take the PC to the computer shop he normally goes to as there's no way he'll be able to follow the instructions himself. He's a complete computer novice (he thinks the internet is ebay!) and I have to trek down to South East Kent from London to help him!!

Thanks for your help though. It was on the recommendations from the first four posts that I got him to even put Adaware, Ewido, CCleaner and Spybot on his computer!!

Be interested to know if the computer shop sorts it out and what they did. The competence of these places varies quite a lot. Let us know afterwards.

If he thinks the internet is ebay, I bet that he doesn't bother to regularly update and run these programs! I would guess that most PC shops would just reinstall windoze rather than try to remove something like this!

Yeah exactly, despite leaving him with strict instructions to run the updates and scans at least once a week I had to run it through with him in a very long phone call this afternoon. He reckons that there are now no problems but I'm a bit sceptical!

Ah bless him. Thing is he's better with numbers than anyone in my generation - no calculator required, let alone excel. But at 67 training him about PCs is not the easiest task in the world!

Thanks everyone. As always you've been a great help.
