I cant recommend one, mine is a fold up one from Argos but i dry the clothes a little differently and rarely use it.

I have a hanging rail which I put all the tops etc on - anything that will go on a hanger really and dry them that way. Its great cos I can move it round if i want to find the best spot to dry as its on castors.

I also do my ironing using it to hang the clothes on once done..... and to hang wet coats on when its wet...like today!

I am sure I got it in Argos.....Heres the link

  • I just bought some Airers at Argos when they were cheap, they all break eventually... But I never buy the folding ones, they are just terrible! I always put the oil filled radiator next to it during the night, and in the day it's near a window and a radiator... 1 load of washing per line, takes 36 hours to dry (I use every second rail so not to overload) and I have radiator hangers I put of the doors for towels and trousers and tops which makes a big difference!

We got rid of our TD 2 years ago, and if you wash regularly using airers work well. A family of three, we wash 4 times a week... when Baby comes I will just buy another airer and alternate.

Have a look around in your local charity or second hand shops or even ask on Freegle/Freecycle. You then may be able to pick up an old fashioned style wooden one which will last and is a lot more sturdy than the modern ones.

I've bought one from Dunelm this week.
It has wings so you can dry stuff flat or hang things from them.
It's really sturdy & fits a lot on. I'have a large washer & everything fitted onto the airer.

    Cost almost £20.

I've had one of these for over 10 years http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8500492/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C14418476/c_2/2%7C14418476%7CLaundry+and+cleaning%7C14418551/c_3/3%7Ccat_14418551%7CIndoor+airers%7C14418554.htm

and it really does hold 2 wash loads. Jumpers can be dried flat if needed, and the wheels which just clip on are very useful.
Having just one side up takes very little space and it folds flat for easy storage, but it doesn't go away very often here!

I didn't get mine at argos, it come from a local bits and bobs type store, they all seem to have plastic storage boxes outside for some reason. They were cheaper than argos at the time.
  • I should start using my airer more often, we have an old wooden one that we've recently found after a tidy up :o It's not that small so you can imagine how untidy our house is!!

I did read this which made me a bit wary (full moon so my irrational thoughts are working overtime). Horrible and very unusual but it's made me have a word with the kids about fingers getting trapped if they mess with it.

We bought two cheap fold up ones from Argos two years ago (the others took up too much space and we were in a small apartment at the time whereas those can be up against any wall or radiator) and have had them ever since, no problems. In the winter things can dry in under 3/4 hours if by a radiator! Plus in the summer if you get a sunny spell you can fold them up with the clothes on and carry them out into the garden!
  • i did see that story lucyeff...very strange

thanks for the replies been very helpful...i like the look of that argos one on wheels though
