MBNA settlement, a question

Hi all

I've been lurking for some time now, the info and successes here have been great to read.

I made a complaint about the PPI on my MBNA Virgin credit card back in October 2010. I referred it to the FOS earlier this year and after the BBA's failed challenge, recieved an offer to settle.

Today, the letter arrived from MBNA stating how much I would get back. The letter also said that this amount had been reduced by the amount of a claim that I had made! I have never claimed on the PPI policy?!

I'm thinking that this is a simple admin error and I'll fire off a letter in response on Monday to query this.

Has snyone else had this sort of mistake in their offer letter?

  • Different error in my letter - interest has only been added up to the date the PPI was cancelled instead of up to the settlement date - they've now said that's all they're intending on refunding. They're also running a month late on paying up as well, the 28 days they stated in their letter has long gone. I was given totals for premiums, interest and 8% but I'm going to request a detailed breakdown of all figures/calculations now. Might be worth doing the same just in case. Having said that I only found out about the interest thing by chance when I called them to chase the cheque - the fact your 'claim' is actually stated in your letter does sound more like an error. You should also contact whoever was dealing with your case at the FOS and ask them to make a call about it.

Good luck, nearly there, fingers crossed!
  • The figure they stated in my letter seems a little light - I've had the card for a long time and figured roughly how much it would be. They have broken it down into premiums, interest and 8% only, no dates or anything. I think I'll request that info, thanks!

It's a relief to be near the end! Just waiting to hear from Lloyds and the Co-op now....
