whats happening to the coop? Has it gone bust?

No not going bust but struggling to compete, Not really a brand name any more and still only appeals to the ageing population, They have been struggling to Buy the right lines to modernise them selves and then get the younger customer in the store. I hear that Anglia society will take on all department stores that it feels can make viable, Anglia will also become the main Buying group for the other society department stores as well.

Anglia department stores tend to be branded Westgate and Contact electrical.

isn't the dco8 the one thats advertised in the newspapers today as about £145 in Argos? so Bad Co-op:mad:

This is why they are closing they have to inflate prices to cover costs, Argos are a very lean opperation with very little merchandising, and are basically a warehouse opperation. Coop offer much more like showing you how the product would opperate and letting you try the display model in store etc.

The cost in opperating department stores are huge so its no supprise that they have said enough is enough. Instead the have for a number of years been taking selected products and putting them in the food opperation as non food lines, ( this prooved succesful and then copied by the likes of tesco sainsburys and ASDA who made this format even more successful and have gone further now then the coop did)

If you go into a large coop food store which sells non food you will find the DC08 retailing for £149.99

Thats the DC08 Base for £124.99. The DC08 origin the coop are selling for £149.99 is £199.99 in Argos!!!

Also i think you mean the DC07 is £149.99 as there is no such thing as a DC09

    Hi To All

I work for the co-op on their distribution side, The co-op is doing great, they decided four years ago to cut their losses on the dept stores when they brought out alldays and are currently looking to buy out another chain of stores.

The dept stores where only breaking even as to olod fashioned so they are seling all their properties which are owned and worth millions.

    Have fun fighting for bargains.

Spoke to Great Yarmouth store and they know nothing about it.
  • The Milton Keynes (Bletchley) one is closing on the 17th Feb (I think), have had a few bargains!

75% off all 'special buys', only 20% off most electrical, 33% off reduced price on shoes, and 50% off almost everything else!!
  • What about the Coventry store?
